About this audiobook

"Comey's conversational tone instantly connects with the listener, and hearing him deliver the book's highly charged contents in his own voice brings authenticity and immediacy to the presentation...This greatly anticipated, revelatory memoir needs to be heard." — AudioFile Magazine

The #1 New York Times Bestseller, now with a new preface!

In his audiobook, A Higher Loyalty, former FBI director James Comey shares his never-before-told experiences from some of the highest-stakes situations of his career in the past two decades of American government, exploring what good, ethical leadership looks like, and how it drives sound decisions. His journey provides an unprecedented entry into the corridors of power, and a remarkable lesson in what makes an effective leader.

Mr. Comey served as director of the FBI from 2013 to 2017, appointed to the post by President Barack Obama. He previously served as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, and the U.S. deputy attorney general in the administration of President George W. Bush. From prosecuting the Mafia and Martha Stewart to helping change the Bush administration's policies on torture and electronic surveillance, overseeing the Hillary Clinton e-mail investigation as well as ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, Comey has been involved in some of the most consequential cases and policies of recent history.

More praise for A Higher Loyalty:

"It was essential that Comey himself narrate this book, not only because his absence would have distracted listeners familiar with his voice but also because only the author could credibly convey the range of raw emotions emanating from the experiences he shares from this most eventful of lives." - Booklist, Starred Review

Comey is a perfect case study in why political hacks should never be in positions that require honesty, integrity and an unwavering commitment to uphold the law. In retrospect it is even more obvious that his decisions were not guided by the letter of the law but completely tainted and driven by what suited and served the corrupt administration of Barack Obama. From the airport tarmac meeting then DOJ Loretta Lynch had with Bill Clinton, to sugar coating the most egregious handling and compromise of classified information and calling the Clinton investigation a "'matter" rather than what it really was. Comey was one of the main players in the Clinton conspiracy who completely lost his moral compass along the way. Not only did he play a major role in exonerating Hillary Clinton without a legitimate investigation but he actively participated in undermining the presidential candidacy of Donald Trump before and after the 2016 election. Releasing this book is at best a last ditch effort to cash in on the crimes he participated in. If there is any justice Comey and his cohorts will be charged and convicted of a multitude of crimes including perjury, treason, sedition etc. I'm astounded by the depths to which they sank to perpetrate these crimes. The only justice so far has been that the American public was not fooled and elected a man of integrity to the presidency Donald J Trump.

Comey has revealed himself as a partisan double dealing, dirty cop, at the highest level.
His politicalized FBI was disgraced under his leadership.
This book and his hard to watch interviews are his ineffective and sad humpty dumpty attempt to put back together again the police force he was instrumental in corrupting as he pandered to power.

This is a very interesting book. The last chapter is an emotional piece about the events around his disgraceful firing. I enjoyed the parts I didn't already know i.e. his early career prosecuting mob families - that was cool. Comey pushing back against the unlawful surveillance program (Stellar Wind) engineered by Gonzalez and Cheney was also good. The mainstream media right now, is focusing on pretty much the epilogue and a paragraph from the two chapters describing Trump persistently trying to bend him to his will (letting Flynn go and announcing publicly that 45 was not under investigation) but that's it. His message about ethics and a higher loyalty - describing Trump as a forest fire that will be painful in the short term but will spark growth - are inspirational. I think he should have taken a new ground on the October 28th letter that tanked Clinton. Had it leaked later in November, 2016 that the feds had a warrant for Weiner's laptop, it would have been a better hit for Comey or the Department of Justice. Overall, this is a good book, not for any new dirt it reveals but it's a good account.

I'm honestly shocked that anyone would give this book the time of day. What a lying POS this guy is. I'm sure most of these reviews are from soros bots or brainwashed sheep. Too bad people don't wake up to what's really going on.

We cannot lose our Democratic Republic to the likes of Donald Trump and his ilk. Enough damage has already been done. My hope is the mid-terms will provide an essential check on executive power running amok.

Those who criticise the book for a two-line description of Trump’s appearance should read the rest of the book first.

"George's" review is a joke. This book shows the inner workings of a legal system trying to deal with "matters" ethically and following the strict guidelines of the law and the constitution, while occasionally being strong armed from the top of the political food chain.

Suprisingly, and contrary to the cries of some that its pure Trump-bashing, this book is not centered around Trump at all. It's an interesting and Suprisingly inspiring story of how James Comey became the FBI Director, and the rungs that brought him into the annals of history. It HIS story. His life. His career. The lessons that shaped who he is.

If you're a strict believer who views President Trump as a heavenly ordained savior, don't bother to reading it, as you'll find fault with everything that's said in the 2 or 3 chapters that Trump is in. However, if you maintain a small bit of sanity and rational thinking, you can read the book and use your own judgements and rationale.

Its a good read... Or listen.

This book provided great insights into comey as a person and as a leader. It could have been more successful without some of his more personal observations but overall it was very effective.

James Comey, a former FBI director (2013-2017) spilled some tea, and we’re here to listen. In this book that partly autobiographical, James recollecting a childhood event that shaped his view toward the worlds; criminality, the bad nature of being in a group (bullying), and leadership. In his early career as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division he helped prosecute the Italian Mafia “Gambino Crime Family” showing his commitment to work with law enforcement to protect the American citizens. He also explained to us what a good leadership look like.
From Bush’s administration, to Obama’s, Clinton’s Email scandals, to Trump’s crazy presidency, James spilled everything that happened behind the scene. His time served as FBI director put him in many difficult situations, from how he handled Clinton’s email investigation, and being pressured by Trump to get his loyalty. Is he one of the good guys? Probably, at least that’s what I got from reading his book.

    A terrific read.

Hearing the author tell his own story is a very powerful thing....I have deep respect for Mr. Comey and his ethical, honest leadership and now have an even deeper despair for the state of our nation under Mr. Trump's leadership.....I do hope the author is correct in predicting good things will come following this fire storm. I would encourage anyone, regardless of political party, to read/listen to this story, it is profound.

The book was written well although I'm not sure I believed all of what is contained within, it is definitely not a total flop. I will say that I believe whole-heartedly that James Comey should not have been fired, I believe that he is at his core is a good man, I believe that he is a good leader, and that he was indeed trying to make the best decision in the worst circumstances. P.S. If I had voted which I didn't because both candidates were terrible I would have chosen Trump, unfortunately he seems to be the lesser of to evils although he is not living up to that statement as of late.

Comey is a True Patriot in following our Founding Fathers beautiful scriptures and checking the President while keeping him at arms-length as the Founding Fathers wanted/demanded. We missed a great leader to run our wonderful FBI all because of an egotistical President Trump. Comey had always put a Country first! Great readings. God Bless Comey...God Bless the United States of America!

James Comey brings focus through the noise created by the media. It’s about truth, not opinion. His focus on how the justice dept. is intended to operate is a reminder of the checks and balances necessary to support democracy.
